2013 Social Action and Justice Award Winner is Hannah Wynen!

May 8 2013

The 16th Annual Kitchener Youth Action Council (KYAC) Awards were held in the Rotunda at Kitchener City Hall May 1st, 2013. Fahima Anwar, President of the Socila Planning Council Kitchener-Waterloo Board of Directors, and Nathan Pike, Secretary presented the Social Action and Justice Award on behalf of the Social Planning Council.

This year’s winner is an exceptional youth who, even at her young age, has impacted many lives in our community.

Hannah Wynen has been a member of the Regional WAYVE (Working Against Youth Violence Everywhere) team for four years, where she has continued to take a positive, proactive and solution-focused approach to social issues such as bullying and mental health awareness.

Hannah has bravely shared her personal story for the WAYVE presentations, as well as at many community forums.

By recognizing and supporting Hannah we hope that it might just be the motivation she needs to continue take her advocacy work and community involvement to the next level! And we hope to inspire other youth to get informed, get involved and take action to make positive social change in our community.

Congratulations Hannah!

The Social Planning Council of Kitchener Waterloo sponsors the Social Action and Justice Award that is awarded to a young person who has taken a stand to bring awareness to an issue or cause through a positive, proactive and solution-focused approach.

Increasing awareness and driving knowledge-based action are two of the Social Planning Council’s foundational operating principals and it is quite unique and commendable that the award winner has acquired the “bug” to initiate change in this way at such a young age.
