Education is also very important. For many, academic upgrading begins with improving literacy skills. Organizations such as St Louis Adult Learning Centres and the Literacy Group provide adult basic education. There is also a provincial program called the Independent Learning Centre that provides free correspondence courses to earn an Ontario Secondary School Equivalency Certificate.
