Growing Traditions in Kitchener

Colin`s Toy Drive 2014This year we encourage you to come together with your neighbours to connect with each other and to grow your own traditions. In the January E-Neighbour you can read about neighbourhoods tha come together each year, month or week and the impact those activities have on their families and their communtiy. We hope you will jump on the "traditions bandwagon" and register all activities and events. The first Early Bird registrations deadline is January 13th!

Capital Grant WinnerThe November E-Neighbour brings good memories of the last Finale celebration and reminds us of the award winners. The New Season has already started and we hope you will embrace the new theme and make it part of your neighbourhood gatherings "Creating Connections, Growing Traditions".  We are thrilled to open a Festival of Neighbourhoods Planning Group and to invite you all to the first meeting on December 9th, 6 - 7:30 pm at the Youth Room at the Downtown Community Centre. Meet like-minded people and help shape the future of the Festival.

Festival Finale 2014

21st Festival of Neighbourhoods Finale brought 35 neighbourhoods together on November 2nd, 1-3 pm at the Kitchener City Hall Rotunda! We celebrated the record number of registrations again this year - 141 registered activities from 56 Kitchener Neighbourhoods! Take a look at the 2013/2014 FON Map and count the stars! Take a look then at the media release to see the description of the awards presented at the Finale.

Walk with the Mayor 2013

The 2013-2014 Festival of Neighbourhoods season is coming to an end. Our summer outreach blitzes brought great joy to Millwood, Moorgate and Westchester neighbourhoods (read our outreach team's blogs). We have received 102 registrations and we expect more to come before the time runs out on October 5th!

Mayor's Challenge is Open Again!

Mayors Challenge 2014Would you like to take your Mayor for a walk around your neighbourhood this fall? Then, tell us what your neighbourhood means to you! You can write or sing about it. Take some photos of your favourite places. Draw a picture that exists around the corner or that is only in your mind. Submit a story in a medium of your choice and take this wonderful chance to connect with the Mayor, celebrate your City and talk about items of interest to your neighbourhood! The Mayor and the Festival of Neighbourhods representative will choose the winner who would lead the tour. Deadline for applications is October 6th at 3 pm.

New Kitchener Neighbourhoods Grant!

The Safe and Healthy Community Advisory Committee is making one year cash grants for one time projects, initiatives or events that support inclusion and/or belonging within Kitchener neighbourhoods. Maximum of $2,000 per proposal for one time initiatives with ties to established community organizations and $500 for individuals or informal group! Read more on eligibility and criteria. April 1st deadline has been extended and grants are accepted on an ongoing basis in the first year!

Neighbourhood Improvement Grants are making difference in Kitchener Neighbourhoods! You can make a difference too with the increased investment of $21,000! Mark you calender for the Festival Finale on November 2nd in the Kitchener City Hall and be there to have a chance to win. Choosing among 19 Jane's Walks this weekend, you might get many ideas how to improve your neighbourhood! Don't forget to register all your Earth Month Clean-ups and huge thank you all for the shiny green spaces you uncovered this spring in Kitchener!

Festival of Neighbourhoods Grant Increase

The Festival of Neighbourhoods (FON) grant got a long-overdue increase in yesterday’s community and infrastructure services committee meeting. Pending ratification by council on April 14, the $10,000 grant, which started 20 years ago and has never had an increase, will now be $21,000.
