What Community Means - 1000 Conversations

After 45 conversations hosted in Waterloo Region, come together with others to hear the wisdom of over 800 of your neighbours who spoke about the present and the future of community. Hear about the things we have learned individually and collectively at the summit What community Means- February 8th, 10 am - 1 pm at Mary's Place Community Room at 84 Frederick street in Kitchener.

2013 Festival Award Winners

"The Festival of Neighbourhoods is really about providing resources, encouragement and recognition to Kitchener citizens for taking the small step to bring their neighbours together," said Janice Ouellete, the co-organizer of the 20th Festival Finale and the facilitator of volunteer resources fot the City of Kitchener.
All our volunteers did the wonderful job co-hosting a historic celebration and helped in making all our award winners shine. The Festival received an award itself from Catherine Fife, MPP Kitchener-Waterloo!

September 30th, 2013 marks the end of this year’s Festival of Neighbourhoods. Register any neighbourhood get-togethers held between October 1st, 2012 and September 30th, 2013 to enter the $10,000 capital improvement grant draw, and to receive recognition for the positive outcomes of bringing neighbours together.

Community Conversations Matter

Community conversations bring together community members, tell us new things about our community and the more involved a person is, the more integrated into their community they will feel. Festival of Neighbourhoods has partnered with Tamarack who sponsors the Community Conversations Award - join in and tell us about your neighbourhood.

Read the new Festival of Neighbourhoods blog to learn about a community conversation at the Courtland-Shelley 20th anniversary barbecue on June 3.

On a related note, Social Planning Council of Kitchener Waterloo's staff and board members had a conversation this past March about communities that was captured in the document, Seeking Community – Wonderful Wandering Wondering Conversations .

20th Anniversary Special Neighbourhood Awards

We are celebrating the 20th year of the Festival of Neighbourhoods with special awards at the Festival Finale: The Mayor's Challenge, Tamarack Seeking Community Award, and Steadfast Neighbourhood Award. As always, the Ward Challenge is on! This year, you can track as activities appear on the interactive map of Kitchener Wards, and as well see what $10 000 grant winners have done in their neighbourhoods.
