Community Connections was established as a joint venture between the Waterloo Catholic District School Board and the Waterloo Regional District School Board to produce a guide to support services for individuals of all ages with special needs. The book comprises almost three hundred records describing many different services and programs in Waterloo Region aimed at people with special needs - everything from employment programs to financial assistance to support and advocacy groups.
For the 2006 edition, the Community Connection project joined forces with the Community Information Centre to greatly expand the scope and usability of the Community Connections book. The CIC helped provide not only content taken directly from our Database of Community Services (the same database that informs such publications as the Blue Book and the Basic Needs Guide), but also provided a deeper understanding of information standards and practices which helped shape the Community Connections book into a more usable and sustainable resource.
