Rotary Children's Centre gets new name

The KW Record reports that The Rotary Children's Centre has changed its name to KidsAbility Centre for Child Development. "The centre now serves 3,700 children a year in Waterloo and at satellite locations in Cambridge, Guelph and Fergus, with a waiting list of 500, a staff of 150 and a budget of $8 million of which 10 per cent is raised by the community."

Economy and population on the rise

Cambridge Times: "The final nose count has been completed and as of Dec. 31, 2002, there were 469,800 people living in Waterloo Region. According to Waterloo Region’s year end population and housing estimates, the annual growth rate for last year was 2.2 per cent or 10,100 people. That’s the highest rate of growth in the past decade. Regional officials are citing the area’s strong economy and the increasing number of students as primary factors for growth."

Ontario attracts most immigrants

CBC News: "Ontario continues to be the province of choice for more than half of all immigrants to Canada. The federal government reported Wednesday that 133,616 immigrants settled in Ontario last year, and the remaining 95,442 went to other provinces. Nunavut attracted only 12 immigrants."
