Key Dates

These are some of the key dates in the development of the Community Plan.

• June 1999 - Release of "Understanding Homelessness in Waterloo Region: A Backgrounder" report

• September 1999 - Working Group formed

• December 1999 - Federal government announces $753 million Homelessness Initiative

• February 2000 - "Opening Doors" homelessness forum

• July 2000 - Release of Opening Doors: A Call to Action On Homelessness in the Region of Waterloo;

• September 2000 - Local Supporting Communities Partnerships Initiative (SCPI) announcement of $529,015 ($453,427 - SCPI, $75,588 Youth funding)

• November 2000 - Working Group decides to allocate SCPI funding to Urgent Needs projects.

• January - February 2001 - Urgent Needs Selection Committee recommends local projects for Urgent Needs funding

• October 2000 - Prioritization of 53 recommendations of Opening Doors report

• December 2000 - Working Group produces preliminary draft Community Plan

• May 2001 - Government of Canada provides funds to Social Planning Council of Kitchener-Waterloo to hire staff to assist the Working Group to create the Community Plan

• July 2001 - Working Group asks Regional Municipality of Waterloo to take on role of Community Entity to assist with implementation of the Community Plan

• August 2001 - Community Meetings are held to review research results and hear community concerns

• September 2001 - Working Group hosts Community Homelessness Forum to confirm community priorities

• December 2001 - Community Plan is launched

• January 2002 - Youth Homelessness Initiative applications are due for SCPI youth funds

• February 2002 - Regional Municipality of Waterloo takes on role of Community Entity

• February 2002 - Call for proposals is issued for SCPI projects

• March 2002 - Applications for SCPI projects are due

• March 2004 - Community Plan Update released
