Marigold Park Grand Opening at Topper Woods

May 10 2013

Marigold Park was the happiest place in the whole large Topper Woods! The grand opening of the park was celebrated on May 10th, with the red ribbon cut and a cake! Festival of Neighbourhoods bunch enjoyed telling stories of before and after, and how the weeds and shrubs turned to the most lively patch of green for young and old equally.

John McDonald shared a few words about 20 year long partnership among residents of Kitchener, City of Kitchener, Social Planning Council and his architect firm. All together made possible the build of the park through the Neighbourhood Improvement Grant, a City contribution to the Festival of Neighbourhoods. Each year, at the Festival Finale, a neighbourhood receives this prize by a random draw.

Yvonne Fernandez invited the most eager neighbours, the children, to cut the ribbon together. Natascha Voll, Kitchener District Facilitator, and John McDonald, who made sure the neighbourhood consultations to build the park went smooth, made sure as well we all got the best part of the cake.
