Tribute to Woodstock

Posted 10 August 2009

Tribute to Woodstock: An Event of Youth Activism, Awareness, and Involvement in Planning Our City. Forty years ago, three days of Peace, Love and Music - the Woodstock rock concert - defined a generation of youth social awareness and activism. The weekend of August 15th and 16th, 2009, marks the 40th anniversary of Woodstock. In commemoration, an event is being held to promote environmental awareness and activism in the youth, and to involve them in social planning. The event will be held Saturday August 15th in the City of Waterloo Public Square on King St. from 7pm to 11pm. The event will involve information pieces, as well as a concert with various local acts. In addition to this, a city councilor will be taking questions and talking about how to get involved in the city's planning processes.

The Social Planning Council Kitchener-Waterloo will have information at this event about the many ways people can get involved in their community. Representatives from the Disabilities and Human Rights group are providing brochures to encourage participation in meetings and initiatives, and there will also be information about the Livable Communities project, the Waterloo Community Action Forum and other community based activities you can link to through the Social Planning Council. This is a great opportunity to encourage everyone to become active for a more sustainable, inclusive and just world. Please join us.
