Inclusion Criteria
It is important to define what is to be included in any information database so decisions about what to include are guided by an objective set of criteria. The definitions used for this website cover what services are included as well as how these services are categorized.
The Inclusion Criteria for the Community Support Services directory are as follows.
Programs and services which:
- assist frail seniors or disabled adults to remain in their own homes;
- are available to residents living within the WWLHIN geographic area;
- are provided by non-profit agencies that are Transfer Payment Agencies funded by the Waterloo Wellington Local Health Integrated Network and/or
- are specifically identified for inclusion by the Community Support Services Network.
Definitions
Alzheimer Day Programs
Programs provide social and other therapeutic activities at a location outside your home, geared towards individuals with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.
Attendant Care
Personal support services to those who require assistance with the activities of daily living and have the ability to direct an attendant to carry out pre-determined tasks that they cannot physically do for themselves.
Congregate Dining
Support service that provides transportation, a nutritious meal and a social activity to clients.
Counselling
A trained agency staff person or volunteer, can listen to your concerns and provide emotional support and advice. May also include support groups.
Friendly Visiting
A support service that provides a volunteer on a one-to-one basis to visit an isolated senior, physically disabled adult, or person with Alzheimer's Disease or other dementias, on a regular basis.
Home Help
Similar to Home Maintenance, these services help you maintain a safe and comfortable home. Home Help assists you with routine household activities including menu planning and meal preparation, light housecleaning and laundry, paying bills or banking.
Home Maintenance
Heavy home maintenance tasks such as yard maintenance, snow shovelling, washing windows, or one-time repair jobs such as plumbing or electrical work.
Meals
A support service that delivers a meal to an individual to meet their nutritional requirements; meals are delivered by volunteers who provide regular social contact and check the health and safety of the client.
Respite/Caregiver Support
Short and long-term caregiver relief to caregivers within service maximums and available resources.
Security Checks
A support service that provides isolated persons or those with Alzheimer's Disease or other dementias with regular telephone contact to determine that the client is not in crisis or at risk of harm.
Seniors Day Programs
Programs that provide social and other therapeutic activities at a location outside your home. Service includes transportation, a nutritious meal and a social activity for program participants.
Shopping Services
Help with grocery shopping.
Transportation
A support service that provides escorted transportation to medical appointments, shopping and various social activities and programs.
